We'll take it nice and easy, the way I'd do it at my kitchen table. You'll get a real win in the first ten minutes, and by the end Claude will actually sound like you.
Here's the whole map in ten seconds. Same Claude behind all three, just more horsepower as you move down the path. You'll pick where to start in a minute.
A quick conversation. You ask, it answers. Perfect for a hook, a caption, a gut-check.
Hand off a whole job and it works through it for you, even after you close your laptop.
Claude working right on your computer, in folders you set up. The deep end, where I live.
Real talk: I run my whole business in Code now. Everything lives in one place and it's just easier for me. But I started in Chat like everyone, and that's where I'd point you first. Pick the door that feels right.
MegFirst, teach it to sound like you. Most people's AI sounds like a robot because they never told it who they are. Your Brand Homebase fixes that. Open a brand new chat, paste this in, and answer the questions. About 15 minutes, no wrong answers. It writes your Homebase for you.
this is the whole secret.
You're going to help me build my Brand Homebase. It's a short document that teaches you how I sound and who I'm for, so everything you write for me later sounds like me and not a robot. Please interview me to build it. How I want you to run it: - Warm, honest, encouraging. Short sentences. Plain words. - No em dashes. No hustle or guru language. No pressure. - Ask me ONE question at a time. Wait for my answer before the next. - If my answer is thin, ask one kind follow-up, then move on. - Lead with hope. Never make me feel behind. Welcome me in a sentence or two, then walk me through these one at a time: You and your people 1. Your name and brand name? 2. In one sentence, what do you do? (I help [who] do [what].) 3. Who are you talking to? The real person, not "everyone." 4. What does that person want most from you? 5. What makes you different from others doing something similar? How you sound (the heart, spend time here) 6. Describe your voice in a few words. 7. What phrases do you say all the time? 8. What words do you never want to see? 9. Any quirks in how you write? Caps, emojis, short lines. 10. Paste 2 or 3 pieces of your real writing. If you have none handy, just talk to me and I'll catch your voice from how you speak. What you talk about 11. Your content pillars? The 3 to 5 topics you come back to. Your rules 12. Any hard rules I should always follow? 13. Any claims you can't or won't make? 14. Any topics you steer clear of? When we're done, assemble it into one clean document with these headings: My Brand Homebase / Part 1: You & Your People / Part 2: How You Sound / My Content Pillars / My Rules. Show it to me as one block I can copy, then tell me to head back to the guide to save it. Remind me it's a living thing I can update anytime.
When it's done, it hands you your Homebase. Keep it close. You'll carry it through whichever door you pick next.
Back in that same chat, paste this. Watch it come out sounding like you, not a robot:
The first line that sounds like you? That is the whole thing. That is why you did this.
Where do you want to jump into Claude? Tap one to see exactly how to get set up there. Then tap each step's number as you finish it, this page saves your spot so you can come back anytime.
You've got your Homebase. Now let's give it a home and get Claude doing real work in your voice.
Make a Project (it's free, up to 5) and drop your Homebase in it. Every chat inside that project now sounds like you, no re-explaining.
Give it three things: who you are, what you want, and what good looks like. Then treat the first answer as a draft and tell it what to change.
Click the + in the chat box, open Connectors, then Manage connectors, and connect your email, calendar, and notes. Now it can pull from the tools you already use.
Turn on Settings › Capabilities › Code execution and file creation, then ask for a content-calendar spreadsheet, a one-page PDF, or a simple tracker. Real files, not just talk.
When you want to hand off a whole job and walk away, this is the door. Every step below is the real one from Anthropic's own Cowork guide.
Cowork runs on any paid plan (Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise). To let it work with your own files, keep the Claude desktop app open on your computer (grab it free from claude.ai if you don't have it yet). That's the whole checklist.
In the message box, switch the mode from Chat to Cowork. Same Claude, new gear. Nothing to download beyond the app.
In your first Cowork session, type this and press Enter. It walks you through picking your role, adding a matching helper, and connecting your tools (like Google Workspace).
/setup-coworkTell it the outcome you want. Then pick Work in a folder in the chat bar so it knows where to read from and save to. Review its plan, let it run, and come back to finished work.
Type this in a task to have it run on a schedule, up in the cloud, even when your laptop is closed.
/schedulePoint it at your Homebase (in a Project or your folder) so everything it makes still sounds like you.
Never opened a terminal? Completely fine. This assumes zero experience and walks the whole real setup, install and all. Every command below is the actual one from Claude's own docs. Copy, paste, done.
Good news, nothing extra to install first. You just need a Mac (macOS 13 or newer) and a Claude Pro or Max plan. Then open Terminal: press Cmd + Space, type "Terminal," and press Enter. That window with the blinking line is where it all happens.
Paste this one line into Terminal and press Enter. Give it about a minute, until it says "successfully installed."
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bashOn Windows? Open PowerShell instead of Terminal and paste irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex instead.
Type claude and press Enter. A browser window pops open. Click Claude.ai, sign in, and come back to Terminal. You're logged in for good.
claudeSays "command not found"? Just close Terminal, open a fresh window, and type claude again.
Claude Code always works inside one folder, so you point it at your folder and that becomes its workspace. A folder's path is just its address on your computer. Two easy ways to do it:
Easiest, make a fresh one. Paste this to create a folder called my-business and step inside it:
mkdir my-business
cd my-business
claudecd just means "go into this folder." Now Claude is working inside my-business.
Already have a folder? Type cd and a space, then drag your folder from Finder right into the Terminal window. It fills in the path for you. Press Enter, then type claude.
Now just type what you want in plain English. It reads your files and asks your permission before it changes anything, so you are always in control.
Remember your Homebase from Step 2? Save it inside the folder you just made (the one called my-business), as a file named brand-homebase.md. Easiest way: paste your Homebase to Claude and say "save this as brand-homebase.md." It makes the file for you, asking first like always. Now everything Claude makes here sounds like you, and it's exactly where my engines plug in later, so nothing you set up gets redone.

Now go make something small, then share it in All the Claude Things so I can cheer you on.
